Membership in detail
Types of membership, what each costs, when it is worth joining, how to pay, and what happens afterwards. If you only want to sign up, the short version is on the join page.
You do not have to join to come and look. Social events, spectating at off-road events and the Facebook group are all open to non-members — it is a good way to see whether the club suits you before spending anything. You do need to be a paid-up member to compete.
Three types of membership
- Full
The main member in a household that owns a Land Rover. There is no need for more than one full member at an address — full and family membership carry almost identical benefits.
- Associate
The main member in a household that does not own a Land Rover. The same benefits, except associates cannot serve on the committee, and cannot use their own vehicle in MROC or other ALRC trials — they can still compete in a Land Rover.
- Family
Anyone else aged 12 or over living at the same address. Under-12s do not need to join: they can come to social events and ride as rear-seat passengers in Tyro trials without membership. Passengers in competing cars do need to be members, which is usually why family members join.

When to join
Joining between September and December costs less because there is less of the year left to run.
Even so, we would suggest not joining in November or December unless you need membership straight away — you would get three months. Wait until January and you get fourteen. In the same way, if joining in mid-August can wait until September, you save £10 and lose only a few days.
What we need
The full or associate member is the one who fills in the form, pays, and receives club correspondence. We need: your full name; a postal address, so we can send your pack; a phone number, for when email fails or an event is called off at short notice; an email address, for club communication and the Journal; and the names of any family members joining, with their own email addresses if they would like the Journal separately.
Paying
You will get an email within a few minutes confirming we have your form and telling you how to pay. If it does not arrive, check your junk or spam folder, then email us — an inaccurate address is the usual culprit, and it also means you would not get your card or the Journal.
Bank transfer is our preference, because the charges are lower, but the choice is yours. PayPal can be paid immediately from a link in that same email. Direct debit is available for renewals only. We no longer accept cheques.
What happens next
We confirm membership by email, usually within a day of cleared payment, and post your pack within 14 days.
The welcome email carries your membership number, when your membership expires, and your digital membership card. By post you get a club shield windscreen sticker and a membership expiry year sticker. The most recent club Journal follows by email.
Your membership card
New members get a digital card — a PDF that opens on most phones, tablets and computers, carrying a few security measures so it is not easily copied. It is replaced each year after renewal, with a different colour, image and expiry year, so an out-of-date card is easy to spot at an event.
Save it somewhere you can reach without a signal: your downloads folder, a sub-folder in your email, or a screenshot added to Apple or Google Wallet. Some members simply print it.
Existing paper cards stay valid for as long as you remain paid up and keep the expiry sticker current — a new sticker comes with each renewal. Ask if you would rather switch to a digital card and we will stop sending stickers. Lost paper cards are replaced digitally; we no longer hold stocks of the physical ones.
Renewing
Renewal is due by the end of February. There is a grace period until the end of March before membership benefits stop, and a card showing an expired year will not be accepted as proof of membership at a competitive event.
Renewing between 1 January and 31 March costs £25 for a full or associate member and £12.50 for a family member — £5 and £2.50 less than joining fresh. After 31 March your membership has lapsed and you rejoin at new-member rates. If it has been lapsed for more than a year, you get a new membership number and card.
Direct debit needs setting up in late January to collect before the end of February. Around 60% of members now use it, and it means you need not send a renewal form at all unless your contact details have changed. We remind everyone through the Journal, the website and Facebook.
Family members go on the same form, after the main member’s details. The form cannot take a family member on their own — to add one to an existing membership, or to renew a family member who has lapsed, email membership@mroc.co.uk and we will sort it out.
Windscreen stickers
The shield and expiry-year stickers go on the inside of the glass, facing out. They are static cling rather than adhesive, so they peel off and can be reused. Peel the backing, wet the side that meets the glass, position it, then squeeze the water out with a clean cloth to shift any bubbles.

The ALRC Green Book
Paper copies of the ALRC Green Book — the rules and regulations — are usually available from a committee member at an MROC event. Ask us beforehand so we know to bring one.
